“Mystery Painting”

There is a mystery surrounding this picture. We have discovered the “Real” picture when we were helping a friend move. Oddly enough it was in the open bed of a pick-up truck among other items when traveled in the thirty-plus mile distance. The print that was on top of that picture of children playing in the forest contained a mixture of mild pastel greens and other natural colors. When there were a group of men arrived at their destination in Charlotte, NC, we thought that our friend put another picture at the last minute in the truck instead of the original piece. Shockingly, we discovered that the print was removed by the wind just as a tornado might have done a very clean removal.

The painting that is underneath that torn-off print shows a distinguished gentleman with a mustache may be from the 1800’s. This picture is also framed with an ornate, natural frame. Now, this painting

puts a shroud of unanswered mysteries around it.

1) Why was his picture covered up?

2) Was it somebody hiding this valuable find?

3) Is there more to this particular picture that meets the eye?

4) Why was that painting so painstakingly and carefully covered up by a print?
